Nest Box Upgrades at Lafayette Reservoir

Late winter is the time to repair, replace, & upgrade nest boxes as needed. Some of the Contra Costa monitors have been spending time on their trails,  replacing old boxes, old posts, and installing new predator guards.

Secondary cavity nesters such as Western Bluebirds, Titmice, Chestnut- backed Chickadees, and Ash-throated Flycatchers start looking for nesting sites as early as late February.  Here we see Tom Garry checking a box to make sure the access door works properly and that the box is clean and ready for a new nest. The beautiful winter weather this day was a bonus.
